Mastery of One’s Self.

Surviving in today’s world is best described as confusing with COVID-19, protestors, and social media who can decide what is best for oneself. For the youth, most have grown up with Facebook and texting at a way to interact and though this leads to young adults suffering from social awkwardness and anxiety when interacting in person, this is the normal. Adults raising these young adults face many obstacles understanding their children like most generations. Between the new challenge of keeping their children from interacting with online predators to ordering drugs delivered to the door over night how do parents deal with these never seen before issues facing this generation. And the onething that can help both is the ancient tradition of martial arts.

At first many parents and young children/adults consider martial arts as sport or for fighting. The truth is that martial arts was designed not just as a method for fighting but for one to balance their mind, body, and soul. Martial arts teaches one how to understand the way their mind and body work together and teaches how to control overwhelming sensations of the unknown and how to act. It gives people a chance to interact together and learn how to master what is needed not only to succeed in society but thrive in today’s chaotic world. The physical aspect brings health and promotes a postive energy (chi) that allows one to have self control and gain self esteem which helps young adults resist temptations that are fluent everyone people like such as drug use. Martial arts is a complete way of life that is used throughout a lifetime in which you constantly learn and continue to grow as time goes on.

I do not speak about this without having studied every aspect I could learn how it helps people today. I reviewed statistical data and researched students I knew and others within the Tang Soo Do Association which is around the World and has martial arts studios in every state across the United States. I learned that statistically students who studied martial arts and reach their black belt do better in society. Many stay away from all the temptation downfalls that every child and young adult face daily through instant connections from the internet. I have personal watched children with learning disabilities, A.D..H.D, anger issues, social anxiety, depression, and even physical disabilities thrive and learn to deal with their disadvantages in life and thrive. Adults as well can start off new and learn which can bring calmness and balance to these uncertain times. Age in regards to martial arts is not something that can hinder anyone from learning these skills.

Eventhough COVID-19 exist most martial arts studios take the proper precautions to protect the students. With so many things out of control today martial arts can bring order to this choas and as time goes on one can always return to their learned practices to once again bring balance to your life.
